Background:
Glaitness Primary School is a single stream school of approximately 230 pupils. There are currently eight primary classes of which three are composite, and there is one nursery class for pupils in their pre-school year. The cottage style school building provides very good accommodation, which is purposeful and attractive. Classrooms are traditional enclosed, but there is shared space in both the Infant and Senior activity areas for work and display. In 1989, Glaitness Aurrida School (for children with special educational needs) and in 1991, the Hydrotherapy Pool and Pre-school Assessment Unit were built onto the Primary School. In 1993, due to a short-term increase in the pupil roll, a portakabin was sited at the back of the school, and in 1999 a P1/pre-school facility was completed as an integral part of the Primary school. A further portakabin was added in 2002 so that an extra class could be accommodated. The school provides a variety of activities to enhance the learning of the pupils. The school aims to provide a variety of approaches to learning which promote independence, problem solving and enquiry. .
